What the hack is "Salt Water Cure" - 'An Ren Water' (安忍水) in Feng Shui & it's Origin ?

Many Feng-Shui Enthusiasts are asking around about applying the "Salt Water Cure" and there are many Feng Shui "Masters" charging  for their Feng Shui Auditing Services, enthusiastically recommend their clients the "Salt Water Cure".  

There are even Feng-Shui Items Makers and Sellers creating and promoting "Salt Water Cure" Jars for people to buy. 

The problem is .. No one, not even one English-Educated Feng Shui "Master" who know both languages (Chinese and English), has ever reveal and translate the actual original Text of where it came from.

Since NO Feng Shui "Masters" have the interest to translate the actual original text, it is my duty to get it done and share it here.  

People everywhere are "Monkey Seeing, Monkey Doing"... so it is best to be informed.

The 1st Feng Shui Book ever recorded of  "Salt Water Cure" was not ancient but fairly recent. It came from a Feng Shui Book, Title:"《宅運新案》第一集" - <<New Case Studies of  House Luck>> Book 1, 1st published in 1927， by Ce Qun (策群).



*To understand the Text better, it is good to have a basic knowledge of  Nine Palace Flying Stars Feng Shui (九宫飞星风水):
  • White-1 Star -（Water Element) - Auspicious  - Tan Lang  (贪狼) - Dubhe - α UMa
  • Black-2  Star -（Earth Element）- Inauspicious  - Ju Men  (巨门) - Merak - β UMa
  • Emerald-3 Star - (Wood Element)  - Inauspicious - Lu Cun  (禄存) - Phecda - γ UMa
  • Green-4 Star - (Wood Element)  - Auspicious - Wen Qu  (文曲) - Megrez - δ UMa

The "Salt Water Cure" is called "An Ren Water" (安忍水) - The Calm Endurance Water.

The Original Text in Traditional Chinese and English Translation：

《宅運新案》 第一集  三十一   制不如化義

凶惡之氣,能遷避另選吉祥之所,固爲上策.

It is definitely the best policy to avoid the fierce / evil energy and choose an auspicious place.

萬一, 格於情勢, 朏於力量, 不易照行, 亦不能困守以待斃.

Just in case, due to the situation and strength, even if  it is not easy to carry out,  We'd better do something than waiting to die (bad luck befall us).

當於, 無可設法之中, 爲作方便, 以求解救, 則制化之道尙已， 制者霸道, 難令悅服, 化爲善法， 無復反抗. 故同一營救之法.制不如化.

When the situation / condition is already fixed, for convenience sake, for self-rescue, don't go against it, transform yourself is better than controlling it.

例如,七赤金爲少陰，於卦爲兌, 於星爲破軍, 於人類爲侍妾, 於人事爲口舌官非乃至爲失金被盜之媒, 於上中二元爲死氣, 於上元末運, 中元首運. 

For example, when the '7 Red Metal' (七赤金) is in Shao Yin （少陰); In hexagrams, it is Dui (兌); The star is Po Jun (破軍); In human beings, it is concubine (侍妾); In human affairs, it is getting involved in lawsuits, and even a go-between for lost of money and money getting stolen; In Shang Zhong Er Yuan (上中二元), it is Death Qi (死氣); In Shan Yuan (上元), it is Mo Yun (末運) - End Of Luck; In Zhong Yuan (中元), it is Shou Yun (首運) - Chief Luck. 

三碧四綠木星主運時, 爲最兇險之殺氣，易招損丁破財之危， 宜令靜止。勿令占住活動處所，授予威權.

During '3 Emerald' （三碧）, '4 Green' （四綠）, 'Wood Star' (木星) are in charge, it is extremely dangerous killing force (殺氣), it is easy to incur the danger of losing money, so it is advisable to keep still. Don't let them occupy the place of activity and grant authority.

年月七赤臨方到向， 每每發生不幸之事，倘用火星制之。往往反受其害，不如以少陽之艮八馭之, 庶幾陰陽相見.

During the time when '7  Red' comes to the direction, and every time if misfortunes happen, can use 'Fire Star' (火星) to control the situation. It is often harmed by it instead, so it is better to control it with the power of  Shao Yang (少陽) of controlling 'Geng 8' (艮八) , hoping for Yin & Yang meeting each other.

無形中自受約束『以乾六馭坤，二坎一取離九，震三馭巽四，同此作用。』或以一白水洩之.

Invisibly self-constrained 『Use 'Qian 6' (乾六) to control Kun (坤), 'Kan 2' (二坎) to take away 'Li 9' (離九), 'Zhen 3' (震三)  to control 'Xun 4' (巽四), with the same effect. 』Or vent it with '1 white water' (一白水).

化克爲生。化凶殘爲慈柔。毎收奇效。法當就一白八白所在之地，或一六作合 ,設法動作之.

Turn restraining into movement. Turn cruelty into kindness. Every harvest has a miraculous effect. The law should be the place where' 1 white' (一白) and '8 white'  (八白) are located, or the place where 1 and 6 cooperate (一六作合之方) and try to move them.

或養黑魚於彼金星所在之方，或用安忍水以代黑魚。而免隨時易水及飼養之煩.

Either keep Black Fish in the place where the "Metal Star" (金星) is, or use 'An Ren Water' (安忍水) to replace Black Fish Keeping, if You want to avoid the trouble of changing water and feeding the fish.

安忍水取瓷罈或坡瓶，內儲潔水加鹽斤許，並納銀錢一，銅幣六，封口儲於七赤所在方。其收效與魚等.

Creating the 'An Ren Water' (安忍水): Takes a Porcelain Jar (瓷罈) or Slope Bottle (坡瓶), stores clean water in it, adds about a catty of salt, and put in 1 Silver Coin and 6 Copper Coins, and *SEALS* it and stores it in the place where  '7 Red' (七赤) is. Its effect is the same as that of fish.

對於其他凶星化之之方，可以類推神而明之，存乎其人.

For other evil stars, it can be understood by the same analogy, and it depends on the individuals.

Important Points To Take Note:
  • Use the 'An Ren Water' (安忍水), if You are lazy to keep Black Fish.
  • It DIDN'T STATE that it is a must to use a Qing Dynasty 'Dragon Silver Coin' and 6 Ancient Chinese Copper Coins (or Qian-Long Tong Bao Coins 乾隆通寶) .
  • It only states  to use 1 silver coin & 6 copper coins.
  • SEAL UP the Jar.
  • Place it at the  '7 Red' (七赤) Spot of the house.
  • If You are able to figure out how this Feng Shui Remedy works, You can create own remedy to counter other 'Evil Stars'.
What did the original creator of  'An Ren Water' (安忍水) Remedy trying to express?

The idea / creation of the Feng Shui Remedy of 'An Ren Water' (安忍水)   by that 'particular person' (originator) is to symbolically represent the weakening of the '7 Red' (七赤) Inauspicious Star -（Metal Element) by increasing the Water Element.  

He recommended keeping Black Colour (Water Element) Fish,  if too troublesome, then put a bowl of  'An Ren Water' (安忍水) at the Spot of the '7 Red' (七赤).

A bowl of  'An Ren Water' (安忍水) is consist of 1 Silver Coin and 6 Copper Coins in Salt Water.   In He-Tu Diagram / Pre-Heaven Bagua, 1 and 6 are Water Element.  (先天一六共宗为北方之水)

Between salt and water, water can dissolve salt, that is, salt can produce water, which is the image of metal producing water. This is the meaning of the source of water keep flowing.
(粗盐与水之间，水能化盐，即盐能生水，为金生水象，此为水之有源也，水有源，自然主源源不断之义)

Some Feng Shui "Masters" also said that the container of  'An Ren Water' (安忍水) should not be covered, because the salt water has a bactericidal effect, and the water Qi should be dispersed in the air to disinfect and drive away sickness... They actually confuse metaphysics with science, which is ridiculous. 

The placement of "Feng Shui Items" is purely symbolic of the five elements, not science. If you really want to disinfect, it is better to buy Dettol.

*If You are well-versed in Classical Feng Shui, You may also create Your own Symbolic Representations Of "Feng Shui Items" to play around with the 5 Elements.  Who knows, You might even sell Your "Feng Shui Products" created by You to make big money from Feng Shui Enthusiasts, who don't know Real Feng Shui.*

More points to take note:
  • When You are copying an idea of "Feng Shui Remedy", or being told or recommended to buy a "Feng Shui Items", always ask Yourself, where does the "idea" originated? Why is it done so? Why does the originator came up with such an "idea"?
  • This is not whether You should or shouldn't do the "Feng Shui Remedy" but get Yourself educated 1st in Classical Feng Shui.
  • Professional / Genuine Chinese Feng Shui Masters don't use "Feng Shui Items" on themselves. They focus on Classical Feng Shui Studies and applications.
  • "Feng Shui" Items are modern days creation, not Classical Feng Shui.
  • "Feng Shui" Items Creators / Makers / Sellers may know (but usually don't know) about Real Feng Shui but their main focus are selling  Feng Shui Items， or create more Feng Shui Items, to make money from the public folks who don't know Real Feng Shui.
Extra points to take note:
  • "Feng Shui" Items  are not Taoist Magic nor Sorcery, therefore there are no spiritual power in them. But at least it can make You "Feel Good" and give You "Peace Of Mind". 
  • "Feng Shui" Items can turn into spiritual items, either Positive Magic Items or Black Magic Sorcery Items, provided if Spiritual Master / Sorcerer cast Positive Spells (Bringing Prosperity) or Black Magic Spells (Creating Bad Luck) into the items - In another term, it is known as Gong Tau (降头)
